Oscars 2016: Screen Actors Guild Nominations

The Screen Actors Guild Nominations are in! Let's see what shocks and sighs of relief we can let out. On a side note, I will only dive into my quick thoughts on the film nominees because I don't cover television. Anyways, let's take a look:

Best Ensemble In A Motion Picture:

Beasts of No Nation
The Big Short
Spotlight
Straight Outta Compton
Trumbo

Straight Outta Compton getting in here is a nice surprise. Also, Beasts of No Nation is an even bigger surprise.

Best Male Actor In A Leading Role:

Bryan Cranston, Trumbo
Johnny Depp, Black Mass
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs
Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl

Good news: Michael Fassbender and Leonardo DiCaprio. Bad news: No Matt Damon. Also, Johnny Depp getting in. He was good, but that's it. Nothing exemplary from him.

Best Female Actor In A Leading Role:

Cate Blanchett, Carol
Brie Larson, Room
Helen Mirren, Woman in Gold
Saoirse Ronan, Brooklyn
Sarah Silverman, I Smile Back

Wow! Did not expect Sarah Silverman to get in. That's a nice surprise. Also, thankfully Brie Larson got in.

Best Male Actor In A Supporting Role:

Christian Bale, The Big Short
Idris Elba, Beasts of No Nation
Mark Rylance, Bridge of Spies
Michael Shannon, 99 Homes
Jacob Tremblay, Room

Why Jacob Tremblay is in Supporting, I have no idea. But I'm still glad he got notices. But one big surprise is no Sylvester Stallone for Creed, Tom Hardy for The Revenant, or Spotlight actors (Michael Keaton OR Mark Ruffalo). This category is wide open.

Best Female Actor In A Supporting Role:

Rooney Mara, Carol
Rachel McAdams, Spotlight
Helen Mirren, Trumbo
Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl
Kate Winslet, Steve Jobs

Not really any surprises here. Even Helen Mirren wasn't a surprise. Her two nods might just be "Helen Mirren appreciation" nods. Also, you'll see that Rachel McAdams is the only actor represented for Spotlight.

So those are my quick thoughts on the SAG Nominees. I'd love to hear what your thoughts are in the comments section. The Golden Globes will announce their nominees tomorrow and those should be exciting as well. Thanks for reading!
