Oscars 2016: Online Film Critics Society Awards Nominations

Hello, Bloggers, the Online Film Critics Society, which is an organization made up of film critics that have online publications, has just announced their list of nominations for this year. For the most part, they are pretty in sync with how the awards race is shaping up as they have frontrunners and dark horses with vocal fanbases. Let's take a look:

Best Film:
Brooklyn
Carol
Ex Machina
Inside Out
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Room
Sicario
Spotlight

Very eclectic mix, I must say! Love seeing Room in here. I was getting a little nervous about its Best Picture chances. But if it keeps getting top 10 mentions on the various critics lists, then it should at least be on the outside looking in.

Best Director:
Todd Haynes, Carol
Thomas McCarthy, Spotlight
George Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road
Ridley Scott, The Martian
Denis Villeneuve, Sicario

Nice that Denis Villeneuve found love here.

Best Actor:
Matt Damon, The Martian
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs
Michael B. Jordan, Creed
Ian McKellen, Mr. Holmes

Michael B. Jordan being mentioned here is very nice. McKellen is also a nice surprise.

Best Actress:
Cate Blanchett, Carol
Brie Larson, Room
Charlotte Rampling, 45 Years
Saoirse Ronan, Brooklyn
Charlize Theron, Mad Max: Fury Road

Good news: Charlize Theron and Brie Larson. Bad news: No Emily Blunt despite the major Sicario love. Still a solid category, though.

Best Supporting Actor:
Benicio Del Toro, Sicario
Oscar Isaac, Ex Machina
Mark Ruffalo, Spotlight
Mark Rylance, Bridge of Spies
Sylvester Stallone, Creed

OSCAR ISAAC!! Yay!!!!!!!

Best Supporting Actress:
Rooney Mara, Carol
Cynthia Nixon, James White
Kristen Stewart, Clouds of Sils Maria
Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl
Kate Winslet, Steve Jobs

Interesting that, with all this Ex Machina love, they didn't nominate Vikander for that performance. She's also the only nominee for The Danish Girl, though, as you'll notice.

Best Original Screenplay:
Ex Machina
Inside Out
Mistress America
Sicario
Spotlight

Very nice nod for Ex Machina.

Best Adapted Screenplay:
Brooklyn
Carol
The Martian
Room
Steve Jobs

Best Film Not In The English Language:
The Assassin
Goodnight Mommy
Mustang
Phoenix
Son of Saul

Goodnight Mommy continues to get mentions. That's very neat. I know I'll have to get used to seeing Son Of Saul get mentions, though. That is our likely Foreign Language Film winner at this point.

Best Documentary:
Amy
Best of Enemies
Cartel Land
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief
The Look of Silence

Best Animated Film:
Anomalisa
The Good Dinosaur
Inside Out
The Peanuts Movie
Shaun the Sheep Movie

Best Editing:
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Sicario
Steve Jobs

Best Cinematography:
The Assassin
Carol
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Revenant
Sicario

I think this is a very amazing list of nominees. I love how different genres and scales of film, ranging from independents to sci-fi blockbusters, are represented here. I would love to hear your thoughts on these nominees. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section. Thanks for reading!
